Privacy Policy

Effective date: August 20, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what information Guide — Disability Benefits & Claims, Explained (“we”, “us”, this “site”) collects when you visit, why we collect it, who else receives it, and the choices and rights you have. We have tried to write it in the same plain language we use everywhere else on the site.

The short version: we do not ask you to create an account, we do not ask for personal details, and we do not sell personal information. The main privacy consideration on this site is third-party advertising, which is described in detail below.

Who is responsible for your information

This site is operated independently. For any privacy question or request, contact support@guide.upcomingscreen.com.

Information we collect

Information you give us voluntarily

The only way to give us personal information is to email us. If you do, we receive your email address, whatever you put in the message, and any attachment you send. We ask readers not to send sensitive personal information such as medical records, claim files, or government identification numbers.

We do not operate accounts, logins, newsletters, subscription forms, contact forms, quote requests, eligibility checkers, comment sections, or lead-capture tools of any kind on this site.

Information collected automatically

Like virtually every website, our servers record standard technical information when a page is requested:

  • IP address (which indicates approximate geographic location, typically at the city or region level);
  • browser type and version, operating system, and device type;
  • the pages you view, the date and time of the request, and how long the page took to serve;
  • the referring page or search engine that sent you, where the browser provides it.

These server logs are used to keep the site running, diagnose errors, detect abuse and attacks, and understand aggregate traffic patterns. We do not use them to build profiles of individual readers.

Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small files a website or its partners store in your browser. This site uses them for two purposes: essential operation (security and page caching) and advertising. Our Cookie Policy describes the categories in detail and explains how to control them.

Advertising, and how Google uses information on this site

This site displays advertising through Google AdSense. The following disclosures are required by Google’s publisher policies and by advertising self-regulatory programs, and they describe the most significant data collection that happens here.

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website and other websites on the internet.
  • Google’s use of advertising cookies, including the DoubleClick DART cookie, enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
  • You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
  • Third-party vendors and ad networks other than Google may also serve ads on this site. Where they do, they may likewise use cookies, web beacons, pixels, or similar technologies to measure ad performance and personalize what you see.
  • You can opt out of personalized advertising from many additional vendors at aboutads.info (Digital Advertising Alliance), optout.networkadvertising.org (Network Advertising Initiative), YourAdChoices, and Your Online Choices for users in Europe.

To understand how Google collects and uses data when you visit sites that use its services, read How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services and the Google Privacy Policy.

We do not control these third parties, we do not receive the personal information they collect, and their handling of your data is governed by their own privacy policies rather than this one. Opting out of personalized advertising does not remove advertising — it makes the ads you see less tailored.

Analytics

We may use privacy-respecting analytics to understand which articles are read and where readers arrive from, in aggregate. Analytics data is used to decide what to write next, not to identify or track individuals across the web.

How we use information

  • To deliver, secure, and maintain the website;
  • To diagnose technical problems and prevent abuse, fraud, and attacks;
  • To understand aggregate readership and improve our articles;
  • To display advertising that funds the site;
  • To reply to you if you email us;
  • To comply with law and respond to lawful requests.

We do not use your information to build marketing lists, and we do not contact readers who have not contacted us first.

We do not sell your personal information

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising in exchange for money. We do not transfer reader information to data brokers, lead buyers, insurers, law firms, advocates, or anyone else for their own marketing use. Note that some privacy laws define “sale” and “sharing” broadly enough to include certain third-party advertising cookies; the opt-out links above are the practical way to limit that activity.

Your privacy rights

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom (GDPR)

Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, our legal bases for processing are: legitimate interests (operating, securing, and improving the site), consent (for non-essential cookies, including advertising cookies, collected through a consent mechanism where required), and legal obligation where applicable.

You have the right to request access to your personal data; to have inaccurate data corrected; to have data erased; to restrict or object to processing, including objecting to processing based on legitimate interests and to direct marketing; to data portability; and to withdraw consent at any time without affecting processing already carried out. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your national supervisory authority.

If you are a California resident (CCPA/CPRA)

You have the right to know what personal information is collected, used, and disclosed; to request deletion; to request correction; to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information; to limit the use of sensitive personal information; and not to be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights. As stated above, we do not sell personal information. To exercise any right, email support@guide.upcomingscreen.com.

Other US states and other jurisdictions

Residents of other states with comprehensive privacy laws (including Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon, and others) have broadly similar rights. We honor verifiable requests from any reader regardless of where they live — we would rather apply one standard than sort readers by geography.

How to make a request

Email support@guide.upcomingscreen.com describing what you want. Because we do not maintain accounts, we usually hold no information about a given reader beyond server logs and any email you have sent us, which limits what we can look up. We may ask for information to verify a request, and we will respond within the timeframe the applicable law requires. Exercising a right never costs anything and never affects your access to this site.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

There is still no uniform industry standard for responding to browser “Do Not Track” signals. Where we are legally required to honor an opt-out preference signal such as Global Privacy Control (GPC), we treat it as a valid opt-out request.

Children’s privacy

This site is intended for adults. It is not directed to children under 13, we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, and we do not knowingly serve advertising targeted to children. This is consistent with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). If you believe a child has provided us personal information, email support@guide.upcomingscreen.com and we will delete it.

Data retention

Server logs are retained for a limited period for security and troubleshooting, then discarded or aggregated. Emails are retained only as long as needed to handle the matter raised, and we delete sensitive material readers send us despite our request not to.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS, and we apply reasonable technical and organizational safeguards. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Email in particular is not a secure channel, which is one reason we ask readers not to send sensitive documents.

International transfers

This site is operated from, and its content is hosted on, servers that may be located in the United States or elsewhere. Our advertising and infrastructure providers operate globally. If you access the site from outside the United States, your information may be processed in a country whose data-protection rules differ from your own.

Links to other websites

Our articles link to government agencies, regulations, and nonprofit resources. Those sites have their own privacy policies, and we are not responsible for their content or their practices. We recommend reading the privacy policy of any site you visit from here.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy to reflect changes in our practices or in the law. Material changes will be reflected in the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the site after an update means you accept the revised policy.
